The prayer following “Our Father” in the Latin Mass begins:
Libera nos quæsumus Domine ab omnibus malis, preteritis, presentibus, et fuituris. .
(Deliver us, we beseech Thee , O lord, from all evils, past, present, and to come.)
The word “past” is difficult to comprehend; one can be afflicted by evils now or in the future, but the past is gone and done with.
It is possible, however, that the evil is carried by the individual, like a debt the settling day of which will come later. One can try to understand this matter, I think, by considering sin, repentance and absolution.
A sin is a wound on the soul, which the absolution heals, but a scar remains. Many such scars accumulate in a lifetime. They are the past evils from which deliverance is asked for.
The scars (past evils) ae healed by penance after death. For how long? Centuries? Longer? That no one knows, just as nobody knows when the second coming will occur.[1] Eternity begins after that.
Infinities are easily grasped, and operated with, by mathematicians, but it is not easy for a man to represent for himself infinity of time, eternity. An intuitive representation was offered, for the benefit of youngsters, by Hendrik van Loon:
Far, in the North, in a land called Svithjod, there is a rock, a hundred miles high and a hundred miles across. Once every thousand years, a little bird comes to sharpen its beak. When the rock has thus been worn away, a single day of eternity will have passed.[2]
And he number of such days is infinite.
On such scale, the time length of penance after death is hardly relevant, when the goal is an absolutely pure soul. That is also the state of the soul of a child.
(T)he disciples came up to Jesus with the question: Who is of greatest importance in the kingdom of God? He called a little child over, and stood him in their midst and said, I assure you, unless you change, and become like little children, you will not enter the kingdom of God.”[3]
It is a sign of the savagery of our age that more and more often we see actions aiming to corrupt the purity of children’s souls. Hee are some examples, but there are many more.
– In 2023,the Texas legislature had to pass a law (SB 12) to prohibit drag performances (not all, only those sexually oriented) in front of children. A drag performer, a drag production company, and pride groups sued. They were represented by ACLU of Texas In Sept 2023, U.S. District Judge David Hittner declared the law unconstitutional. It took two years for the Court of Appeals, 5th Circuit, to reverse that decision and reinstate the protection of children.[ 4] Even after that, however, children were at drag shows in Dallas.{[5]
– In the same pattern, there was an outcry in Florida in 2022, when children were seen at filthy drag shows.[6] A law was passed, signed, and implemented in 2023,[7] only to be challenged in courts by Hamburger Mary’s, a restaurant and bar in Orlando and blocked in the same year by U.S. District Judge Gregory Presnell. In Dec.2025, a federal appeals court has lifted the injunction and let Florida begin enforcing its law.[5]
Wean imagine how things are in states like California and New York, and be sure that in Europe it’s even worse.
Just a few more examples:
– Dutch psychologist Madeleine van der Bruggen argues society needs to “break th taboo” surrounding paedophilia. Notably, Van der Bruggen advises the Dutch National Police on child abuse investigations.[8]
– William ‘Willy’ Villalpando, who teaches early child development at Santa Ana College in California, called the idea of ‘childhood innocence’ a ‘mythology.’ He also attacked the idea that children shouldn’t be exposed to “sexuality,” as “very white, Christian, upper-class, cis-gendered, and hetero-centric.”
Prior to his current employment, Villalpando worked in the Rialto Unified School District pre-k division from 2016 through June 2021.[9]
Going from theory to application:
– Madison Paige Jones, 30, was accused of, and confessed to, sexually assaulting a 5-year-old at the direction of Zackery Dondlinger, (referred to as) her boyfriend, who was having sexual fantasies about the child. She also sent videos of the acts to Dondlinger to satisfy his sexual needs. Jones was a substitute teacher with the Midlothian, Texas, Independent School District.[10]
– A serial criminal, Matthew Misner, age 23, of Texas, forced an eight-year-old girl to have sex with a dog. The offender, has pleaded guilty to animal cruelty, after a plea bargain, for the killing of (another) dog. He was sentenced to four years in prison.[11](a) Misner’s 25 arrests in Wichita County include five burglary or theft charges and four drug-related charges.[11](b)
Woe to us if we ever stop fighting to protect the purity of children.
